Unidentified Airships at Clonmacnoise in the 8th Century AD

In today’s post, I’d like to take a closer look at unidentified aircraft that were sighted in the 8th century in the vicinity of Clonmacnoise. Clonmacnoise (Irish: Cluain Mhic Nóis, literally “meadow of the sons of Nós”) is an early medieval monastic complex located on the River Shannon south of Athlone in County Offaly, Ireland.

According to Irish annals, unidentified airships were seen over Clonmacnoise Monastery, and one ship dropped a spear or anchor, which became snagged on a part of the monastery tower.

A sailor (a member of the airship’s crew) was also said to have descended to free a snagged anchor, but was in danger of drowning in the denser air than that of the lower world.

According to another account, ships were also seen in Teltown. Teltown (Irish: Tailtin) is a parish in County Meath, Ireland, encompassing the area between Oristown and Donaghpatrick in the County of Kells. It lies in the civil parish of the same name.

Several sets of Irish annals, the Ulster, Tigernach, Clonmacnoise, and Four Masters, briefly mention the strange event; the Ulster annals, for example, simply state that “ships with crews were seen in the air.”

This story is repeated in the Book of Leinster as part of an account of the events at the Teltown assembly: “Another miracle of the same assembly: the sight of three ships floating in the air above them, while the Irish were celebrating the assembly of Domnall, son of Murchad,” who reigned from 743 to 763. New details are provided in the account in the Book of Ballymote. The ship (instead of ships) still appears at the Teltown fair, but this time in the presence of the 10th-century king Congalach mac Maelmithig. We learn that one of the crew members threw a dart at a salmon that had fallen among the assembled. The man descended to retrieve the dart, but when one of those on the ground grabbed it, the stranger shouted, “I’m drowning.” Congalach ordered the man to be left alone and returned to the ship, sailing.

The story of unidentified airships evolved over the centuries, changing the details, the number of ships, the location of the sightings, and so on.

Given the contamination of historical accounts over the centuries, repeated misinterpretations, and the addition of personal, embellished elements, the most important aspect in such cases is always the core story from which the modern narrative was born.

It is possible that flying vehicles were actually seen near Clonmacnoise, which ordinary people of the time, unable to identify, described as supernatural or divine forces.

In my opinion, this is a typical example of a close encounter with an unidentified flying object, with extraterrestrial technology, and representatives of an alien civilization that has been present on our planet for centuries, influencing the development of homo sapiens.

Of course, we cannot confirm this, but we also cannot deny it without concrete justification.
Whether a UFO encounter actually took place in Clonmacnoise is a question everyone must answer for themselves.
